Product Review: Ellana Minerals Lip and Cheek Tint in Ruby

I broke my no-buy mode Wednesday last week because I've been lemming for a lip & cheek tint. I want to give it another try so I won't have to reapply my blush when I go out. Since I go for the natural/no-make up look, I figured a cheek tint is my best bet. I had a not-so-good experience with cheek tints years ago because since I didn't know how to properly apply it, I always ended up looking like a clown. Betty Boop-ish cheeks, if I may add. And because I am once again a cheek tint newbie, I didn't want to splurge on it. Benetint's quite expensive and I find TheBody Shop's a little overpriced too. I checked out eBay and saw a listing for Ellana Minerals' Lip & Cheek Tint in Ruby and Amethyst. I looked at the pictures and saw that Ruby is the reddish one and Amethyst is the purple one so I decided to go for Ruby. I received it yesterday and immediately put it to test. I applied it at around 4pm and I was surprised that by 11pm, the tint is still there. It lasted for a good 7 hours on my oily skin. Plus my cheeks look flushed even after 7 hours.

I got a 20ml bottle for 180 bucks which isn't bad, considering that you only need very little amount for each cheek. It looks bloody red but when blended well, it gives a very natural rosy glow on the cheeks.

On the label, it says:

Gives a gorgeous rosy glow that lasts the whole day. Gives a sheer and beautiful no make up look while moisturizing your skin. Doesn't dry easily giving you enough time to blend.

And here's what I like about this product:
-hypoallergenic, non comedogenic
-looks very natural on the cheeks
-lasts a very long time, even on my oil mine of a face
-has aloe vera extracts which moisturizes the skin as well
-very easy to blend
-locally available, a local product
-cheap, for only PHP180 bucks/20ml
-hygeinic, the pump bottle keeps the product from getting contaminated
-gives you control on the amount of product that gets squeezed out but you have to use a light hand

What I do not dig about this product:
-no cap on

So far, I am liking this product. And hopefully, I do not break out with it.

Ta! ^_^

Recipe: Buttered Shrooms

Yesterday I was really bummed as I can't think of anything to blog about. But thanks to the encouraging words and kindness of my blogging sistahs, I thought of something I can post. Well, as most of you know by now, cooking is my passion so I am sharing a very easy recipe. This is a very easy one to make and you only need 3-5 ingredients. I actually cooked it yesterday to serve as my comfort food. I love mushrooms. And this is a good appetizer that I first tried at Dencio's and loved it ever since. Here's my version.

What you need:
-Shrooms
-Butter
-Garlic
-salt and pepper to taste
-chili powder (optional)

What to do:

-I opened a can of button mushrooms and rinsed 'em. I think it is important to rinse the shroomies to get rid of the can thingie.
-I then minced 3 cloves of garlic. I enjoy the chopping part, makes me feel like a chef. :)
-So I put butter in a medium-heated pan and added the minced garlic and waited for the garlic to turn golden brown before I added the shrooms.
-I added a little salt and pepper to taste and sprinkled a little chili powder because I like it spicy. -Just let it cook for 10 minutes and stir every once in a while.
-Serve and then munch on it.

Trust me, it's better than Dencio's. ^_^

Now, that feels better. ;D

P.S.

Cheysser, please don't sue me for this. Haha! :)

I finally went out again yesterday. I met up with someone at Trinoma Mall and we hung out at his place. I can't believe I stayed there from 8pm-5am today., watching DVD's, playing songs, tickling, and WRESTLING. I am so dead. My mom will definitely kick my ass. ^_^

By the way, there's nothing wrong in going out with someone 11 years my senior, right? I am turning 25 this year. ;D And no, he is not married. >_<

something to think about...

It's been only 7 months since I started blogging, starting at Xanga and ending up blogging here in Blogspot, and now I can't think of anything else to blog about. I can't turn my thinking cap on. I'm running out of things to blog so I ended up blogging about food and cooking recently. I love make up but I am not as creative as other girls are in coming up with looks, so I ended up blogging about purchases and hauls. But I can't keep on doing that since lately, I am on a budget. I do not want to splurge on make up and skin care yet until my small business has been established or started or launched. I was exchanging emails with a Mineral Make up company in the US about me being an official distributor here in the Philippines. It is a good company. However, I am no longer using mmu which includes their products. And my thinking is like, how can I promote their products if I no longer use it? Of course, consumers will ask you stuff about one product or so and I cannot answer their queries very well since I do not patronize mmu anymore. I am blabbing and ranting again.

I cannot think of something worth blogging and reading. maybe I should turn my blog into a cooking or food blog. But I don't cook everyday. My recipes are not very original, usually just editing and revising some ingredients from a tested recipe. I have an original recipe, one, two, three. That's just it. Maybe this will work when I am already enrolled at a culinary school. Oh, I found a school that offers a 2-year course in culinary,. First OJT will be here in the Philippines, next OJT will be in Singapore. But I am broke! I need moolah!

Product Reviews...I am not really good at making reviews on products as I am most of the time biased. I have a hard time keeping an objective mind when it comes to products.

Or maybe...I should just leave this blog to die since I am out of creative juices.

Recipe: Dry Egg Yolk Carbonara

I've been a naughty girl, I know. I made a little lie about not cooking anything today. But I did. I cooked my very own dry carbonara. Why dry? Because I did not make white sauce for it but it still is a little creamy. I know the word dry is not appealing but I just had my fix of creamy pasta. And to be honest, I like this better.

See? I made two batches. The one on the first picture has ham and mushroom. The second one has chicken strips and a little mushroom.

For the first one, here's a list of what you'll need.
-Spaghetti/pasta
-egg yolk (one for every person)
-ham
-mushroom
-salt and pepper to taste
-extra virgin olive oil or vegetable oil (healthy cooking)
-garlic and onion
-butter
-a little beef/pork/chicken broth cube

For the second one, here's what you need:
-spaghetti/pasta
-egg yolk (one for every person)
-chicken strips (you can slice strips from chicken breast)
-mushroom
-salt and pepper to taste
-evoo or veggie oil
-garlic and onion
-butter
-a little beef/pork/chicken broth cube

What to do: (Same steps for both)
-cook pasta on boiling water for 10-12 minutes or until tender
-add a little oil and salt to add flavor to the pasta

While waiting for the pasta to cook, mince garlic and onion and saute on a heated pan with melted butter. Add a small chunk of beef/pork/chicken cube for added flavor.

Add ham/chicken strips and mushroom. Turn off the stove while waiting for the pasta to cook.

Once pasta is cooked, drain water without rinsing the pasta and put on the heated pan.

Turn on the stove again and add a little evoo or veggie oil on the pasta and the egg yolk. It is important to use only the egg yolk because the creaminess will come from it. One egg yolk for every person. If there are 5 of you going to share the pasta, 5 egg yolks then.

Do not forget to keep on mixing and swirling the pasta so the egg yolk won't fry.

Salt and pepper to taste.

You may add a little butter or milk to make it creamier.

Best served when hot.

And the best part? Eat! ^_^

Try it, ladies. ^_^

My current blush collection

Away from food for now. I am lazy to cook today. Hehe.

So here is my current blush collection. I know this isn't much but I sold and gave away most of the blushes I do not get to use so whatever you see on the picture, these are the only ones I use most of the time. I sort of decided to trim down my blush or my make up collection so as to not waste them by letting them sit on my make up case and get expired. But I did not include all my mineral blushes here since I do not use them anyway. At least they don't expire. ^_^

TOP: ELF Studio Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder (the latest addition and hopefully the last one for now), Neutrogena Plum Perfect, Palladio Shimmer Strips in Beige (good for highlighting and can double as an eyeshadow)

MID: The Balm Hot Mama Blush (I am letting go of this blush), NARS Orgasm, MAC Mineralize Blush Grand Duo in Intenso, MAC Beauty Powder Blush in Joyous, NYX Mosaic Blush in Paradise

BOTTOM: Pop Beauty Blush Cake in Pretty in Pink, Shu Uemura Glow on Blush in Tranquil Pink, Clinique All Over Face Colour in Peony (which I still haven't used because of the pretty intricate flower design) and Nichido Blush in Cool Rum (for contouring)

There you have it. I used to have almost 30 blushes but I was able to trim it down to 12, which is more than half of it. Some, I regret selling like my NARS Super Orgasm and L'oreal Blush Delice in Front Page Peach and a few more MAC blushes but what can I do now, they are already with someone who can love them better than I do.

I am glad to have someone support me in trimming down my make up collection and he really makes me feel better about it. His question would always be, "Do you really use that?" And when I think about it, I really don't and he's right. But hopefully, I will no longer have to say bye bye to any of these blushes left. Otherwise, I will have to replace it with another one. Hehe. ^_^

As for my no-buy mode, I am pleased to say that I haven't bought anything in 3 weeks now. I am proud of myself. ;D

Ta! ^_^

EDIT: I forgot to include on the picture my Neutrogena Healthy Skin Blends Sheer Blush in Fresh. Pretty bricks of pink shades.

yum moments: cheesy creamy rainy tuesday afternoon...

I know I haven't posted anything beauty-related and my last two posts were all about food. So now, here's another post that has something to do with, again, food. ^_^

I've been craving for a creamy pasta but I couldn't buy the ingredients for baked ziti since it is raining hard (finally! hallelujah!) so I just sort of "edited" or "revised" or "improvised" on the instant mac & cheese here from Kraft foods. Since I find it kinda bland, I had to add something else that would make it really cheesy and creamy. I added more milk, butter, trusty old cheese whiz, mozzarella, and a little Parmesan. And oh, a few small slices of ham so it won't be all-macaroni.

So, macaroni and cheese, anyone? ^_^

Yum Moments: Hungry Hippo

When my mom got back here from Medical City for my grandpa's dialysis, she handed me something from Hungry Hippo. It was a big cheeseburger. I haven't had breakfast at that time so I was kinda hungry and the burger was just in time for brunch.

As of this writing, I haven't finished it yet. I only finished half of it. I am not so happy with it because I find the patty a little overcooked. I like it juicy and I just love it when the meat juices start coming out after every bite. In this case, it was a little dry. But for only PHP75 bucks ($1.50), it's not that bad at all. But they can certainly do better than that like Wham's burger. ^_^

Recipe: Burger with Creamy Shrooms

Since I was home alone yesterday, I got hungry in the evening and there's no food so I had no choice but to cook myself something. I wanted baked ziti but figured out there's no pasta here so I just made myself burger steak. But I wasn't in the mood to make gravy and tried something else instead. I brought out the ground beef, added minced onions and garlic, a little rosemary and salt and pepper to taste to make the burger patty then grilled it, pouring extra virgin olive oil every once in a while. As for the sauce, I mixed altogether nestle cream, cream of mushroom, a little milk and butter, beef broth, salt and pepper to taste, and a little chili powder and stirred them on a heated pan until the sauce became thicker and creamier. The result of my experiment?

And here's the END RESULT.

My ELF Studio Purchases

I guess the secret of not letting my mom know about my ELF purchase didn't turn out to be a secret after all. I woke up this morning and the package is already here. Thought they'd arrive in the afternoon so my mom saw my purchase. So I only ordered 2 items. The ELF Studio Powder Brush I once had and lost, and the ELF Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder. After a little over a month of waiting, they're finally here! ^_^

I love the Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder. I tried 'em on me and I think it ended up okay.

It reminds me of the NARS Orgasm/Laguna duo, only the blush is more NARS Deepthroat-ish for me. I like that it is not as shimmery as Orgasm. The bronzing powder works.

As for the brush, it smells kinda funny but the taklon bristles are really soft. But not as soft as EDM's flat top brush IMO. I have a feeling it'll be scratchy after a few months of use, but I hope I'm wrong.

I wish I had gotten more of these 2 and other studio products because they seem really nice. Next time ELF Studio goes on sale, we'll definitely order again.

Oh, I used the Contouring Blush on my niece/goddaughter when I did her make up for my other niece/goddaughter's party today. I hope I applied her make up right. I used pinks.

Here I am, injured, and still able to apply make up on other people. Hehe. I had a hard time choosing the right foundation shade for her because she is morena and most of my foundies are light for her. I saw some darker shade of mineral foundation on my stash so I used it on her. I used the following on her.

Face:
-Earthen Glow Minerals Cover Me Foundation -Kaylee
-Ellana Minerals French Vanilla Premium Blend foundation
-Earthern Glow Minerals Hi-Def Pro Finishing Powder

Cheeks:
-ELF Studio Contouring Blush
-Pop Beauty Cake Blush in Pretty in Pink

Eyes:
-Palladio Shimmer Strips in Beige - I used the pink strip on the lids and the white strip to highlight her browbones
-Fasio Mascara

Lips:
-MAC Marisheeno lipstick
-MAC Plushglass in Big Kiss

Sorry for the crappy pictures.

Ciao for now! ^_^

My poor ankle...

I was supposed to go out this afternoon and have late lunch at Charlie's and coffee with a friend and buy a gift for my neice/goddaughter's birthday tomorrow. On my way out, I tripped and sprained my ankle. My right ankle has been weak for years now and I always sprain it, never the left. Now I'm stuck in bed, have a bandaged foot, and on bed rest for a week. It hurt so bad that I was so pale and my face was sweating like a pig and my mom knew I was in pain. I'm kinda worried that if I keep on spraining and straining my ankle, I might have to undergo surgery and that's something I will definitely not look forward to. Just when I was ready to go out, the timing is so perfect. So tomorrow, I won't be able to attend the party because I have to stay in bed, all alone in the house while everybody gets to have fun. Well, on the brighter side, my ELF Studio orders will arrive tomorrow. Seppie notified me it has been shipped. Thanks a million, sweetie! I am so glad that our pooled orders are finally here. And I will be here tomorrow to receive the package and no one else will know I purchased something again. My mom's going gaga because I keep on shopping even though I quit my job. So this will be my little secret tomorrow. ;D

On the other hand, my foot still hurts and yeah, here's how it looks like.

Sorry, I know it's kinda improper but I had to share my pain. Haha!

Anyway, have a nice day, y'all! ^_^

Plants vs. Zombies, anyone?

I was never really into pc games until recently when I became a bum after I quit my job. I was in front of Pyrie (my laptop, named after its model Acer Aspire) almost everyday and I get bored surfing the net. So I decided to play games such as Diner Dash, Fashion Dash, Hangaroo, Amazing Adventure, Luxor, etc. I was told by a friend to download this game, Plants vs. Zombies. I did after a week or two and boy do I enjoy playing this game! It's a game of strategy where you have to plant plants to protect your house from zombies wanting to eat your brains. They make this funny sound, "braaaaiiins" everytime they are about to attack your house. I had this silly thought of them calling out my name "Graaaace" because I had to type in my player name but I realized after a while that it is brains and not my name. I am not a plant lover but I am enjoying plants because of this game. After 3 days of playing it, I am still on level 5-4 where the zombies are attacking you from the rooftop and you have to plant on pots this time. The zombies are funny because there is a pole vault zombie, dancing zombies, zombies held up by balloons, an old zombie who gets grupmy everytime you hit his newspaper with a walnut, a miner zombie, a zombie jock, and lotsa other zombies that can make you say, "what the heck?!" everytime you see a new type of zombie, The plants...there's a chomper, peas, shrooms and sunflower and lotsa other plants that are helpful. My favorites are the shrooms, cherry bomb, and the tough walnuts. You get to unlock mini games and puzzles when you reach certain levels. Why don't you download this game, play, and see for yourself? ;D

Product Review and Revisited: Kanebo Revue Still Keep Powder Foundation

I've had this foundation for almost a year now. I do not get to use this powder foundation that often because of MAC Studio Fix which has been my HG Foundation for years now. But since I was on the look out for a better foundation last year, I have purchased several Japanese brands of foundations, one of which is Kanebo Revue Still Keep, because they are said to be the best matches for Asian skin.

I have always confused this one with Lunasol since I do not know much about Kanebo. I see their stalls at department stores but I do not really check out their products. So when I checked out the Kanebo counter at Rustan's EDSA Shang last year, I was totally clueless. I was asked by an SA (sales assistant) what I am looking for so I told her I am looking for a powder foundation that's good for keeping oilies at bay. So she suggested this line, Revue Still Keep, which according to her is made for oily skin. I was deciding which shade to choose when this snotty older SA approached me and was kinda nasty because I was just dressed in jeans, flip flops, and a shirt. She thought I won't be buying anything so instead of being helpful, she gave me the attitude that made me give her a piece of my mind. She sort of backed off and the younger assistant was apologetic since she saw how pissed I was. So going back to this foundation, I picked up a shade lighter because I am acidic. And the reason why I got confused is that the SA put the Revue Still Keep foundie on a Lunasol compact so I kept on referring to this one as Kanebo Lunasol Revue Still Keep. See how clueless I am when it comes to Kanebo products? >_<>_<

So I was amazed by this foundation for the first few times I've used it but since it was a tad light on me, it stayed on my make up kit for a long time. It was only when my face got lighter that I decided to revisit my foundies. And this was the very first one I saw. I applied it on my face using my EcoTools retractable Kabuki and I was amazed once again, like the first time. This time, the shade is a perfect match. It was a tad light on me since when I bought it, I had a tan. I had a tan this year but my face is back to its color so this is a match. I have been using it again for a few times now and here's my review on this product.

It almost disappeared on my skin.

Pros:
-very finely milled powder
-leaves a porcelain-like finish
-soft and smooth and velvety skin upon application
-blends well on the skin, not chalky nor powdery
-color tone matches mine perfectly
-very suitable for Asian skin
-perfect for summer, feels very light on the skin
-the finish is just amazing, I can't keep myself from feeling my cheeks
-locally available

Cons:
-quite expensive for PHP2100 for foundation refill and PHP750 for compact
-light to medium coverage- heavy coverage lovers will not love it
-not so much for oil control and staying power

Will I buy again? Maybe. If that snotty older SA will no longer be there. :-D

Kidding! Maybe, maybe not. I will if my MAC Studio Fix fails me. Shiseido Supplist Poreless gives almost the same finish at a lesser price.

And oh, Happy Independence Day, everyone! Ta! ^_^

EDIT: I don't know which shade this one is because when the younger SA put the foundie refill on the compact, she asked if I wanted to keep the box but I said no so now I have no clue as to what shade it is. But from what I remember, this is the second lightest shade for the yellow-toned foundies. IMO, this is suitable for NC25-NC30 skin.

What's in my kikay kit? Er, kitS? ^_^

Hi ladies! I thought of doing this post to share what's inside my two kikay kits. Yes, I have two kikay kits. I bring these whenever I go out so I prefer medium or large-sized bags.

So these are my two kikay kits! I have two because I like having a separate one for cosmetics and the other one for perfumes, brushes, body butters, hand sanitizer.

Here's the first one.

And here are what's inside my Clinique pouch.

L-R: Bench Bratsplash Kiwi hand sanitizer, Vanilla & Co. Slip on Something Sexy Fresh Vanilla Milk body butter, Clinique Happy EDT, Bath & Body Works Magnolia Blossom body splash, Goody hair brush On Top: D&G Light Blue perfume sample

Here's the second kikay kit.
